Even further south is Central America, which has some of the most beautiful rainforests and exotic animals, like the poison dart frog, ocelots, tapir, capuchin monkey, and jaguar.
The Starbase facility is surrounded by the Lower Rio Grande Valley national wildlife refuge, which is home to an endangered species of ocelot, and the piping plover, a threatened bird species, among other things.
Researchers say the boxes have not only attracted bats but also ocelots, coatis, and opossums. Surveillance footage has even shown that the boxes have become a premier location for natural prey and predator activity.
So it's a huge success because in a four or five-year-old forest, we've now got ocelots hunting other animals and we've restored the trophic interactions that we want to see in a rain forest.
