Capsule subglobose, leathery, pallid, cinereous-luteous or cinereous-brunescent, surface usually with densely squarrulose macula or smooth, loculicidally dehiscent.
The necrotic epithelium becomes embedded in exuding fibrin and red and white cells,so that a grayish pseudomembrane is formed-commonly over the tonsils,pharynx or larynx.
The drug is collected in summer and autumn when the fruit turns greenish-yellow, boiled in water until the exocarp becomes grayish-white in colour, halved longitudinally, and dried in the sunn.
