It's deforestation – cutting down forests – that causes greenhouse gases from wood and soil to be released. And there's another reason too – the use of fertilisers.
To protect that beauty, she co-founded the Sierra Gorda Ecological Group in 1987 after witnessing deforestation as a result of agriculture, manmade fires and illegal logging.
So eating more meat means farmers need more land to keep their animals on. And to get more land, they need to cut down trees – which is called deforestation.
Despite this, over 70% of their habitat has been destroyed over the last 25 years, mostly due to deforestation for pulp and paper industries, as well as oil palm plantations.
